Plymouth gallery joins forces with British artist to celebrate Mayflower anniversary

Plymouth, Mass: British artist Russell Marshall will pay tribute to the passengers of the Mayflower this July at Inky Hands Studio – with a new series of limited edition artworks celebrating the 400th anniversary of the famous Plymouth landings.

13 limited edition screen prints inspired by the historic event will go on sale this July at the popular studio.

London-based artist Marshall spent his twenties in Boston, after giving up his career as a journalist to sail across the Atlantic in a 40ft sailboat - with the intention of starting a new life on the east coast.

“After following in the tailwinds of those 102 passengers myself back in the 1990s, Massachussetts history, its people and culture, has remained a source of inspiration my whole life.

“I wanted to celebrate our very human capacity to take such huge leaps of faith in the name of freedom, and with the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower landing approaching I felt it was the perfect time to join forces with Inky Hands and immortalize that iconic journey - while remembering my own.”

The award-winning artist’s new work uses the age-old art of screen-printing to create limited edition hand-pulled pieces featuring the Mayflower itself, original documentation listing the passengers and other historic artifacts reimagined in his signature style.
